Human Rights Day

On the Human Rights Day the Ministry of Justice once again commits itself to the protection and promotion of human rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Fundamental Law of Hungary sets that “ The inviolable and inalienable fundamental rights of MAN shall be respected. It shall be the primary obligation of the State to protect these rights”.

International Anti-Corruption Day

International Anti-Corruption Day has been observed annually on 9 December, since the United Nations Convention Against Corruption came into effect in December 2005. The Convention, adopted by the UN General Assembly, was declared to raise awareness of corruption and its negative effects.

International Day of People with Disabilities

The International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPwD), as proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in Resolution 47/3 of 1992, is marked around the world on 3 December. . The international organisation has been selecting an annual theme for the event since 1993, this year it is “Sustainable development: The promise of technology”.

World AIDS Day

Today an estimated 35 million people are living with HIV, of which about 3.2 million are children under the age of 15. The global campaign of World AIDS Day has been held for over 20 years around the world to protect the rights of those living with HIV and to fight against the disease. HIV infection occurs mostly in Africa, where the lack of medication, proper medical treatment and adequate knowledge of the disease is still very common. Because of these facts the World Health Organisation (WHO) will pass new recommendations in order to treat people exposed to HIV and the UN is devoted to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Violence against women is one of the most significant problems of our time. According to the statistics of World Bank, women between the age of 15 and 44 are at bigger risk of becoming the victim of domestic or sexual violence than getting cancer, malaria, being in a car accident or a victim of war.

Universal Children's Day

On 20 November 1959 the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the day marks Universal Children's Day ever since. The Declaration was made to provide the welfare of the children and included such as the right to bear a name, the right to citizenship and education. The Declaration was not legally binding so 30 years later on the same day in 1989 the Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

A new era for combating discrimination faced by LGBTI people (Conference, Brussels)

The call for more equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people takes centre stage at a high-level conference at the Council of the EU in Brussels on 28 October 2014. It is the first time a Presidency of the Council of the EU convenes such a meeting, signalling a renewed drive by EU institutions to tackle the discrimination and hostility still faced by LGBTI people across Europe today.
