Hungarian-Dutch bilateral talks on the battle against human trafficking

In order to further improve bilateral cooperation against human trafficking, a Dutch delegation visited the Ministry of Interior, as well as the National Police Force and the Prosecution Service on 18-19 December 2012. The delegation included representatives of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice, Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Coordination Centre Human Trafficking (CoMensha) and was accompanied by a representative of the Dutch Embassy of Budapest.

UN General Assembly Designates September 5 as the International Day of Charity upon Hungary’s Initiative

Upon the initiative of Hungary, the UN General Assembly unanimously decided to designate September 5 – the day on which Mother Theresa of Calcutta passed away – as the International Day of Charity on December 17, 2012.

The Government creates the Human Rights Roundtable together with civil society organisations

The inaugural sitting has taken place of the Human Rights Roundtable, which will have a major role in the preparation of Hungary’s Human Rights Report. The Roundtable has been set up the Human Rights Working Group, which operates as an advisory body to the Government. Forty-five civil society organisations active in the field of human rights – several of them recognised internationally – are taking part in the Roundtable’s work. Next year thematic meetings will focus on twelve major areas.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs unveils memorial plaque to Holocaust victims

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a memorial plaque to the victims of the Holocaust as well as their saviours at the Pest bridgehead of Elizabeth Bridge in Budapest. Parliamentary State Secretary Zsolt Németh and Israeli Ambassador to Hungary Ilan Mor attended the ceremony and unveiled the plaque.
