On 16 April we remember the Hungarian victims of the Holocaust

In 2000, the National Assembly designated 16 April as the Day of Remembrance for Hungarian Victims of the Holocaust. The first such memorial event was held in 2001. This year official Remembrance Day events will take place in Budapest at the Holocaust Memorial Center and the Danube Promenade Holocaust Memorial, and also in the cities of Hódmezővásárhely and Pécs. There will also be a memorial concert in the afternoon at Budapest’s House of Terror Museum.

The Government will take action against all acts and initiatives that are anti-Semitic or offend minorities

Zsolt Németh Opens Exhibition on Armenian Culture in the Carpathian Basin

It is easy to see the parallels between the histories of the Armenian and Hungarian nations – said Zsolt Németh, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the opening of the exhibition entitled „Far from Ararat – Armenian Culture in the Carpathian Basin” on April 5. The event was attended, among others, by Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament László Kövér and President of the Armenian-Hungarian Cultural Association in Yerevan Anahit Simonyan.

Governmental fight against anti-Semitism

Two hundred Hungarian young people travel to Auschwitz today to participate in the 26th remembrance programme organized by the March of the Living. Tens of thousands of young people from 53 countries are to participate in the programme. Beside historical remembrance, the programme helps people focus on the socially embedded nature of prejudices and hate. The traditional Hungarian March of the Living will be held on 21 April and tens of thousands of participants are expected to take part.
