The deportation of hundreds of thousands of Germans was a great loss to Hungary

The Minister of Human Resources called the fact that hundreds of thousands of people of German descent were deported from Hungary following the Second World War a great loss. Zoltán Balog held a speech in Berlin on Saturday at the human rights event entitled "Day of the Fatherland" before organisations representing Germans who were expelled from various countries and representatives of the German federal government.

Roma employee program in district offices

A cooperation project of the National Roma Government and Budapest and county government offices has enabled 100 citizens of Roma origin to start working as in district offices from 1 July 2013. The employment of staff of Roma origin in district offices, the smallest territorial units of public administration, may make administrative matters easier and simpler for all Roma citizens in the future.

Tranzit – Festival on the border

European Day of remembrance of the victims of totalitarian dictatorshipsb

People gathered outside the "House of Terror" museum in Budapest today to light candles in commemoration of the victims of totalitarian dictatorships. Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice Bence Rétvári and Vice-Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Youth, Social, Family and Housing Affairs Péter Ágh participated and held speeches at the ceremony.

Minister Martonyi: Foreign Affairs Council meeting successful

At their extraordinary meeting on Wednesday, while keeping in mind the needs of the Egyptian people the EU Foreign Affairs Council has decided to continue providing financial assistance within the socio-economic sector to Egyptian civil society. However, the EU will monitor the situation and re-adjust its cooperation accordingly, and the Council has asked the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton to review the issue of EU assistance to Egypt within the framework of neighbour policy and the association agreement between Egypt and the EU.

National Day celebrations across the country

The founding of the Hungarian State and the legacy of Saint Stephen is commemorated today across the whole country, under the slogan “The country – together as one”. Various events and concerts are taking place not only in Budapest but also in several municipalities around Lake Balaton. However, due to adverse weather conditions at the Lake, fireworks will only take place in Budapest. The organisers expect hundreds of thousands of people from both within and outside the country.
