Terrorism is one of our biggest security policy challenges, but preventing radicalism is as important as fighting terrorism, Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi said on 29 May 2013.

Radicalism, extremism, and terrorism are intertwined, and that is why the spread of radicalism itself in a society must be prevented, Minister Martonyi said, opening an international conference on terrorism prevention in Budapest.

The ever growing threat is two-fold: terrorists carrying out acts alone and the emergence of new terrorist groups, Minister Martonyi said.

He noted that the internet was an easy-access forum for terrorist recruitment. This has focused heightened attention on the significance of prevention in combating terrorism, he added.
