The universal values upon which the United States was founded - liberty, fundamental freedoms, democracy, the rule of law and independence - are important not only for the American nation but for Hungarians and other nations as well", Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi declared at a reception hosted by the US Embassy on the occasion of Independence Day, the American national holiday.

János Martonyi stressed in his speech to the guests at the reception that "The birth of the American nation and of the United States is celebrated on July 4. Today, we celebrate together those values that inspired this historical event”.

US Ambassador Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis called July 4 a special day that connects Americans even amidst political and economic difficulties, one that celebrates liberty, equality and democracy, values that they always stand for and that would continue to govern their actions.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister remarked that cooperation with Ambassador Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis would continue because of their common ties: shared values and the jointly achieved results.
