Minister Martonyi: EU laws and Member States’ laws should be in harmony

Publicated on: May 21, 2013

The laws of the European Union and its individual Member States should be brought into balance, with the various constitutional and political structures of members being respected, Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi said May 21 at the international conference in Budapest, entitled “The Enforcement of EU Law against Member States”.

As defined in the Lisbon Treaty, the EU must respect the equality of Member States and their national identity as well as their political and constitutional order, Minister Martonyi stated. Without such respect the integration cannot function, he added, stating that there should be balance in the operation of the various EU institutions as well.
