Hungary welcomes the UN Security Council’s binding and enforceable resolution that demands the rapid and controllable eradication of Syria’s chemical weapons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. The resolution was approved unanimously on Friday.

The Security Council proposal is of historic importance in stating that the use of chemical weapons is unacceptable and threatens international peace and security which cannot be left without consequences, the Ministry stated. The resolution proves the international community’s dedication to finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Syria without delay.

The Hungarian Government expects Syria to fully carry out, without delay, the resolution of the UN Security Council and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), receive the UN and OPCW experts and guarantee their safety and full access to information.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that Hungary had previously offered, in cooperation with its allies, participation in the disarmament and obliteration of chemical weapons through the UN and the OPCW.
