Hungary receives five MPs from Myanmar for a one-week study tour between 8-14 September as the first part of the parliamentary cooperation project in the framework of Hungary’s support program for the democratic transition in Myanmar.

The study tour was organized by the International Centre for Democratic Transition (ICDT). The project was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary. During their stay in Hungary, the MPs gain insight into the roles and functions of Hungary’s National Assembly, Constitutional Court, State Audit Office and the Curia.

During his meeting with the MP’s from Myanmar on 13 September, Deputy State Secretary Péter Wintermantel stated that Hungary followed with particular empathy and interest the political, social and economic transformation process in Myanmar. Péter Wintermantel confirmed that Hungary was interested in the preservation of the peaceful nature of the transition, as it will create the necessary conditions for the government to complete the reform process. The MPs from Myanmar considered the parliamentary co-operation initiative offered by Minister of State Zsolt Németh during his visit to Myanmar in January 2013 as a program of outstanding importance for the proper functioning of the democratic institutions in the country.
