Human Rights Day

Publikálva: 2014. december 10.

On the Human Rights Day the Ministry of Justice once again commits itself to the protection and promotion of human rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Fundamental Law of Hungary sets that “ The inviolable and inalienable fundamental rights of MAN shall be respected. It shall be the primary obligation of the State to protect these rights”.

The date was chosen by the UN General Assembly on 10 December 1950. After the terrible years of the Second World War on this day the General Assembly proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, containing the first generation human rights.

This year’s slogan, Human Rights 365, encompasses the idea that every day is Human Rights Day, because each one of us, everywhere, at all times is entitled to the full range of human rights, without discrimination.

After the democratic transition, Hungary’s number one priority was to extensively ensure the protection of human rights. Our Fundamental Law declares more fundamental rights than before, meeting the challenges of the 21st century. Apart from highlighting the universal human rights, this day also gives the opportunity to evaluate the achievements, find new opportunities and aims regarding the innovation of human rights. The Ministry of Justice is committed to continue this work.
